Once upon a time, there was a blonde; 100% natural and loving it - until her hair started to look kind of that mousey, dirty blonde...

No, I'm not talking about the cat - but did you know that there is actually a company that makes cat wigs? This lovely shade is bashful blonde, though I wouldn't think that a bashful cat would where a blonde wig... Getting to the point, I was an unhappy dirty blonde that ultimately went blonder - and I love it! There's something about a new hair color to make you feel absolutely rejuvenated. My inspirations were Scarlet Johanson and Amber Heard (from the The Informers - which actually looks kinda good, L.A. in the 80's seems pretty intriguing).

I adore old commercials: This happens to be a particular favorite. Oh Barbie, will you ever learn? In the real world, Ken would dump you for a Bratz doll named Yazmin at "the dance", and you'd be too busy maintaining your 6 foot, 18 inch waist, 100 lb figure "to eat lunch at school together". And Barbie: Fraternity parties aren't what they used to be!

I love love love Proenza Schouler's Fall 2009 collection. Listen, I know everyone sees bizarre runway fashion as an exquisite art form, but I honestly think that it's quite refreshing to see a girl walk out on the runway in something that's somewhat realistic; opposed to Martin Margiela's "look" - if it even deserves that title. I mean, how insulting would that be to the poor girl chosen to wear the thing? Why not just say, "You've got great legs...but I think we're going to have swaddle you in red jersey from the hips up to raw attention away from ... your ... well ... hips up," or "Given the recent economic troubles, we've decided to ... downsize ... hair and makeup. So, good news! Your call time is two hours later!"

And Betsey Johnson? She traveled outside her realm of homecoming dresses you'll wear once, to Gone With the Wind-meets-Charlie Chaplin.

Speaking of high school dances; I'm off to Winter Formal Decorating!

Hi, I'm Anne and I drive a giant toaster

Hey lovelies!

Long time, no see. Well anywho, I am simply announcing my entrance back into the blogging stratosphere. Despite my excuse that school work got in the way of blogging; as I was cruising through Miss Couturable and Sea of Shoes during lit. the other day, I realized that I really, really missed it.

Given that I haven't blogged since around 1995 (I'm kind of the queen of exaggeration, just ask my mother), a lot has changed since I've lasted posted:

• I'm 16.
• I can drive! As I said to my friend Emma, "Screw turning 16, I just want a license." Well that's actually a Catch-22...You need to be 16 to get a license.
• I drive a 2008 Honda Element! It's my little, giant box! It's Galaxy Gray and absolutely perfect. When people ask what car I have, I just say, "Oh, I drive a toaster." It really does look like you could stick two slices of Sarah Lee in the top.
• What else...
• I broke up with my boyfriend, but I'm engaged to Robert Pattinson (in my dreams).
• I've read the first three books of the Twilight series. Go ahead, shoot me, I'm a stereotypical teenaged girl who swoons at the idea of a vampire falling in love with a human. Well, I'm pretty much obsessed, but I made a vow to myself that I wouldn't ever turn into one of those emo chicks who like wears the  t-shirts from Hot Topic that quote the movie, "I don't want to be monster." Don't get me wrong, Robert Pattinson is absolutely charming; but I don't want him plastered on my back with yellow eyes. Twilight is pretty much my secret shame...
• I am the proud mother of an iPhone! I babysat on Saturday (the one family who keeps me in business), and you have to know that I am a total enabler babysitter. So, in the past I would always let the little boy and girl I watch play with my really crappy LG Chocolate. I can't even tell you the physical pain it caused me to pass over my 3G into their Orville Redenbacher-butter-coated palms. But thankfully, no harm was done.
• This semester I'm in a TV production class, and I adore it! I've been making movies since age five, and I feel like this is really where I can see if I like it for a possible career...

Well, that is about it! If you haven't read my blog before, I'm Anne: A (somewhat) small-town girl hoping to venture out in the world...I'm just not sure what I want to do when I am out in the world. I'm a sophomore in high school, and I love fashion, film and music!

Two of a Kind: Brady-Butchered

OMG! I figured it out: Gossip Girl's Jenny Humphrey's new do is eerily reminiscent of Mrs. Brady's lovably horrific mullet.

I know, this is my second post in a row bashing Little J. I need to stop! Though I can't help myself from missing the peacoats and headbands of the good 'ol days.

I was so excited to be Jenny for Halloween, but my dreams of being a Gossip Girl were crushed by my Serena and Blair who suddenly decided we should be cats. Yes, cats. I thought about being Jenny by myself, but then I realized I'd be deemed by others as an attempted-slutty schoolgirl. I decided to be a good sport: So, I slapped on some cat ears and had a fabulous Halloween!

I Want Candy

'Tis almost Halloween doll faces! So excited! Every year for my school's Student Advisory Board we collect canned goods or "Trick-'r-Can." As 5-year-old-ish as it sounds, my friends and I (sophomores in high school, mind you) still basically trick-'r-treat. After we receive candy, we just say, "Oh, our 'elementary' school is collecting canned goods so if you have any that'd be great...if not thank you for your time!" When will we grow up? I have a feeling when we are in college we'll have to hire children to tote around on Halloween to keep up our tradition!

About a week before Halloween, I get a rabid-dog-like-look in my eye, ravenous for dark chocolate and Sweetarts...I also have a year-round obsession with Tootsie Pops! Grapes happen to be my favorite, raspberries my friend Kate's as illustrated (in a project for my communications class), above.

Marc is Loved by the Gossips and the Greeks

Oh how I absolutely adore not being so incredibly busy! In celebration of my newfound freedom, I decided to have a catch-up session on my two all-time favorite guilty pleasures: Gossip Girl and ABC Family's Greek before their new episodes air today and tomorrow. As I finished off The Serena Also Rises and switched over to Greek, I noticed a similar wardrobe choice. A super-cute Marc Jacobs top was worn by the Greek's forthright fashionista Ashleigh (above, left) as well as Gossip Girl's bohemian style Vanessa (above, right).

I find it so incredible how television stylists can take a rather basic top and turn it in to a look taylor-made for a character. Ashleigh's girly style is portrayed through a hot pink floral pin, while Vanessa's laid back look is completed with a chain looped necklace. Two completely different characters, one top.

There's No Place Like Homecoming

I find it rather amusing how the preparations for homecoming take hours, days, weeks even. Arrangements for mouth-numbing pictures, dinner and the after party are deliberated months in advance. Yet everyone hates the actual dance: Guys standing around awkwardly while their dates squeal in unison at each other's dresses, people with their arms folded on the outskirts of dance floor. 

Despite this slightly negative view of homecoming, last night I had an excellent time at mine.

For Good

I know, I keep saying "I'm back, I promise" and follow up with a month-long hiatus. Well this time I'm back for good! The high school golf season ended Monday at our district tournament and my obligations as our Student Advisory Board's chair of the homecoming parade have been lifted as of yesterday.

My high school's homecoming theme this year is The Wizard of Oz, ergo our float (above) was a tornado-damaged cottage complete with crushed witch legs donning ruby slippers I fashioned out of an old pair of Isaac Mizrahi for Target kitten-heels by coating them with red glitter. Emma (of Six Miles South of North Platte) stands next to our fabulous tornado complete with a struggling "farmer Ken," and various pieces of Barbie furniture. It pained me watching Barbie's beloved Pepto-Bismol-pink living room set being welded to the structure, but in the end the sacrificing of the sofa was worth it: Our float took first place!

This One Won't Give You a Lisp

Oh those awkward days of the orthodontia: Repeatedly lisping while reading your essay to the class, yanking watermelon Bubble Yum from your wires, leaving a trail of bracket bands wherever you go. Yeah. Been there, done that - for two and a half years. Thankfully, the eclectic "Retainer Necklace" (above) by Kiel Mead doesn't cause overactive salivation and you don't have to attempt to conceal it with a "Mona Lisa smile" on picture day. I call it "An ode to your awkward stage." I also found the "Forget Me Nots," "Freck Specs," "Gum" and "Key Rings" (below, clockwise) quirkily adorable.

Falling Deeply In Love With Fall

Despite the ample yard waste (which I was shoved in, above), autumn is my favorite season of all. Don't get me wrong, the cozy cardigans, array of plaids and chunky-knit scarves are fabulous, though I have to say that I love fall for the sake, of well...fall! The crisp air, colorful leaves (which I happen to enjoy jumping in) and high school football games are what makes this season my absolute favorite.

My high school happens worship the sport of football, which includes dressing to the nines for each and every game. Our school colors are crimson, ivory and ebony, in other words, every student is coated in red, white and black on game day. Sometimes there are themes we dress out for, which have included "Hunting Season" and "Toga Night." I honestly have no idea who coordinates these events, though I have to say they do a great job of spreading the word, as last week not a soul in sight wasn't wearing camouflage or neon orange. This week our theme is "Red Out", we are to done our brightest reds to support our team.

My plan of action to support the team (which includes my homecoming date!): A Rugby tee (below, left) and knee-socks (below, right). I discovered Rugby awhile ago while on vacation in San Francisco and fell in love with the Ralph Lauren branch's "rustic prep" styles. I like to call it "Edgy with a popped collar!"

A slightly embarrassing fact: My friend and I signed up for our school's rugby team, thinking we could don our fabulous Rugby rugbys for the games. After some quite graphic descriptions of injuries acquired from the sport which apparently is football without pads, we realized that we'd have to save our darling shirts for golf team.

Yes! I'm back! No, I did not fall into a vat of toxic waste! I am indeed alive and well contrary to my blogging habits. Yeesh. I sincerely apologizing for not posting sooner. Sophomore year has been...crazy. Crazy-good and crazy-stressful. From my Physics teacher who makes me want to accelerate my fist into a wall to endless Spanish conjugation packets, it has been a stressful couple of weeks! But I have a feeling this year is going to be my best yet, allowing me to learn more than I have ever before. Okay, I'm becoming bit of a corn-dog now, but I love to learn.

The class I have to say I am most excited for is Mass Communications, the prerequisite for my high school's newspaper. We just finished watching a biographical film called Shattered Glass telling the tale of Stephen Glass, a twenty-three year-old reporter at The New Republic who wrote twenty-seven fabricated articles which included fake quotations, sources and events. Glass event went as far to have his brother set-up phone numbers and websites when another magazine questioned his sources. 

I have to say, that Hayden Christensen is quite the cutie.

Who isn't mind-boggling-ly excited for the premiere of Gossip Girl's season two on September first? *Nerdy snickers* Above is a picture of the filming of one of my favorite episodes, "All About My Brother" that my friend Caroline (who lives in New York) took. Anyway, I have twelve long school-filled days until this blessed event. I have a total girl-crush on Blair Waldorf (there was actually a great article this summer's Teen Vogue about girl-crushes - which aren't actual crushes, rather extreme admiration towards another girl). Who doesn't love a fierce attitude and a wardrobe to match?

Though I'm not a fan of tees, this "Team Blair" shirt from Fred Flare is soon to be shipped to my door!
